WAIPUNARANGI
Waipunarangi is a new series of work from Joanna Dudson Scott informed by Matariki’s rising in 2020 – the emergence of the mid-winter star cluster signalling the Māori New Year - and historical narratives from the Marlborough Sounds.
This was a solo show at the Millenium Public Art Gallery, Blenheim.

Owner of Dudson Scott Gallery, Joanna describes her painting and creative process.
I have always constructed landscapes in my mind, from all the actual landscapes that I know. The mountains, rivers and plains are key elements, but it is the spaces between - the passes, valleys and pathways, that capture my imagination, as if they represent passages in life. Through my paintings my intention is to evoke a sense of place, to combine intuitive impulse with reasoned strategies and through my personal approach establish a kinship with the landscape. Evolving the expressive image in paint is a process of conscious observation, how the ideas are painted is what is important. That everything from direct observation – plein air painting to studio paintings based on sketches, studies and photographs is a personal journey of self-expression.

PHOTO COLLECTION
Photos are all priced at $170 and have a format that does not exceed 480mm x 300mm.
They are framed in a tidy black frame with glass, signed and titled by the artist and are easily posted throughout New Zealand.
